Zeus Bascon

Zeus Bascon (b. 1987 | Laguna, Philippines) stresses on translations, transformation and transmutation. He indulges in introspection as part of an exercise of becoming, interconnecting links between the supernatural and the real in finding truths, while exploring representations of these narratives through documentation, image-making, organizing and the performative. Bascon's community practice is being realized through Cultivating a Garden, which endeavors to develop a local creative ecology within the City of Santa Rosa and beyond.

And while sustaining a multidisciplinary practice, transitioning studios and work from Laguna to Occidental Mindoro and elsewhere, his trailing of a sense of a place and the sense of self have become guiding queries: a continuous attempt of determining a current state of being positioned within a complex string of inquiries about identity and queerness, mythologies and politics, and strategies for survival.

Since 2006 he has been actively participating in presenting works locally in alternative spaces, commercial galleries and museums. He also exhibited in the Asian Resource Center Art Gallery (Oakland Chinatown), Osage Art Foundation (Hong Kong), Art Gallery of Grande Prairie (Canada), Patani Artspace (Thailand), a.p. (Berlin), Nanhai Gallery and Sandimen Cultural Center (Taiwan). In 2018, Bascon became a recipient of the Thirteen Artists Award, granted by the Cultural Centre of the Philippines. He has participated in international residency programs and grants in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Canada; as well as locally in Tagaytay, Aklan, Manila, La Union and Laguna.
