Uri de Ger

Uri de Ger (b. 1988) is a Filipino cultural worker, conceptual painter, and installation artist based in the southern region of Luzon, Philippines.

Living in the Philippines—a country with among the worst human rights violations and, at the same time, the most social media users in the world—his work explores the complex interplay between philosophy, the sociopolitical conflicts and absurdities, and the pervasive influence of meme culture in contemporary society which often intersects with lived struggles and contradictions. De Ger’s works contemplate on how death is directly related to neo colonialism and neo feudalism which hugely affects his personal view of existence, ideology and art.

De Ger has been part of several notable exhibitions, including Resetting the Clock (2018) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, curated by Con Cabrera, and Variations of the Field (2019) at Vargas Museum, curated by Cristian Tablazon. He was also invited twice to participate in Lost Frames screenings (2017, 2019). His solo exhibitions include shows at artist-run spaces such as Sampaguita Projects (2017, 2019), Anima Art Space (2023), and Kalawakan Spacetime (2024). De Ger was a founding member of the art collective, Makiling Initiative (2022).
